EUREKA DAY by Jonathan Spector

Springs Ensemble Theatre announces its August production of “Eureka Day” by Jonathan Spector, running August 13 through August 30, 2026, at Springs Ensemble Theatre, located inside the Fifty-Niner Speakeasy in Old Colorado City.

Set at a progressive private elementary school in Berkeley, “Eureka Day” begins in the well-meaning world of community values, inclusive language, and collective decision-making. But when a mumps outbreak forces the school to confront its vaccination policy, the community’s carefully maintained harmony begins to crack. What starts as a meeting about public health quickly becomes a brutally funny look at certainty, identity, privilege, and the limits of good intentions.

“Eureka Day” is a comedy about people who want to do the right thing and discover that agreement is easier to perform than to practice. Spector’s play reveals how fear, love, ego, and principle can all live in the same room, especially when children, safety, and community trust are at stake.

The production opens Springs Ensemble Theatre’s Season 17. In an intimate venue where audiences sit close to the action, SET invites Colorado Springs theatre-goers into a story that feels both painfully familiar and deeply human.

Known for producing bold contemporary theatre in intimate settings, Springs Ensemble Theatre brings “Eureka Day” to the Fifty-Niner Speakeasy for a limited three-week run. Audiences can expect a smart, fast-moving ensemble comedy that invites laughter while refusing to let anyone off too easily.
