Visionbox Studio Theatre invites you to apply for our ongoing Directors’ & Playwrights’ Lab!
SESSION: 5 weeks of classes (2 classes/week)
TUITION: $500
This lab will help emerging playwrights develop new material alongside directors. Early classes will focus on the importance of the Actor’s Five Questions, originally taught by Earle Gister (Yale School of Drama, 1980-1999.) Then, writers and directors will conduct tablework to gain a greater understanding of the “spine” of a play (On Directing by Harold Clurman). Playwrights will also bring in newly drafted material to read aloud and develop for potential workshop productions.
This lab runs parallel to Visionbox Studio’s scene study acting classes. Each week, one class will be devoted solely to the directors and playwrights and the other class will allow directors and playwrights to gain hands-on experience working with the acting students.
All interested artists will interview with Artistic Director Jennifer McCray Rincón and the Visionbox team. Playwrights should submit written materials and resume. Directors should submit a production picture and a directing resume. Applications can be sent to info@visionbox.org
