Morwood Manor is an original gothic absurd horror piece loosely inspired by Shirley Jackson’s We Have Always Lived in the Castle. With immersive staging, the audience will be invited into the historic manor of the Morwood family for a special celebration, with the entire show set around a dining table. What starts as a murder-mystery-style tea service soon devolves into bizarre, abstracted familial rituals, dynamics, and disputes.
Specific text and movement sequences will be devised collaboratively by the ensemble and developed in an iterative, site-specific process, co-directed by Hang Nguyen and Soleil Kohl.

What are we looking for?
We are looking for big, bold, absurd, and expressive characters that fit into familial archetypes. The cast will have a high level of ownership over their role, and should be comfortable making offers surrounding the movement, text, and composition of their individual role and its relationship to the entire ensemble. Actors should be interested in exploring dark, grotesque, disturbing, and/or violent material in absurd ways that sometimes makes these subjects comical.
Experience in ensemble devised work is preferred, but not required. You don’t need to have formal theater training. Bring the skills that are uniquely your own. We are only casting actors 18+ that are based in Denver at this time.
Compensation
Performers will receive a $200 stipend, to be paid accordingly:
$50 on the first day of rehearsal
$150 on show closing
Dependent on sales, actors may also receive a split of ticket sales, as well as tips. Cast will also receive a set number of comp tickets for friends/family.
Schedule
Rehearsals will take place largely on weekday evenings and weekend daytime, with scheduling somewhat reliant on the availability of the cast.

September 29 – October 10 (main rehearsal period)
October 11 – October 18 (show week)
Soleil Kohl (she/they) is an experimental performing artist whose work spans immersive theatre, absurdist satire, clown, audiovisual collage, and interactive storytelling. Her work has been presented across the US and internationally, and has been featured on BBC Scotland and No Proscenium. Recent theatre credits include Sweet & Lucky: Echo with Third Rail Projects and the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
