Pickering Arts & Entertainment is seeking an experienced, collaborative Scenic Designer for our Winter 2027 production of Annie at the PACE Mainstage Theater in Parker, Colorado.
The Scenic Designer will work closely with the executive producer, director, technical team, scenic builder, and Parker Arts staff to develop a visually engaging, functional, and achievable scenic design for this large-scale musical production.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include:
Collaborating with the executive producer, director and production team to establish the scenic concept and visual direction
Creating scenic renderings, ground plans, elevations, construction drawings, and other necessary design materials
Designing within the approved production budget, venue specifications, safety requirements, and available load-in schedule
Coordinating with the scenic construction team regarding materials, construction methods, finishes, transportation, installation, and strike
Participating in production meetings and communicating design revisions throughout the process
Attending key rehearsals, load-in, technical rehearsals, and other production dates as needed
Working closely with lighting, costume, props, projection, stage management, and technical personnel to ensure a cohesive production design
Preferred Qualifications
Previous scenic design experience for musical theatre, professional theatre, community theatre, educational theatre, or similarly scaled productions
Strong drafting, rendering, communication, and collaborative problem-solving skills
Experience designing for a proscenium theatre and productions involving multiple locations and scenic transitions
Ability to balance artistic ambition with budget, construction, staffing, safety, and scheduling considerations
Familiarity with Vectorworks, AutoCAD, SketchUp, or comparable design software is preferred

The production currently includes 19 scheduled performances: 17 public performances and two school performances, with the possibility of one additional performance.
Estimated Production Schedule
Load-in: December 28, 2026–January 8, 2027
Technical rehearsals: January 9–14, 2027
Performances: January 15–February 7, 2027
Load-out: February 8–9, 2027
Design meetings and preliminary scenic development will begin well in advance of load-in. Applicants should be available for regular collaboration throughout the design and production process.
Compensation
This is a paid contract position. Compensation is $3000.00
