Board Member

Website Historic Elitch Theatre

The Historic Elitch Theatre (HET) seeks leaders who are passionate about community, arts, theater, and history, to support the revitalization of this renowned institution. Can you provide time and expertise, while also leveraging your networks and resources in support of the organization and the mission? The ideal candidate has a track record of supporting and advocating for community organizations.

The Historic Elitch Gardens Theatre Foundation (dba Historic Elitch Theatre) is a 501(c)3 organization working to restore and preserve the Elitch Theatre, both the physical structure and the legacy of this historic building. With ongoing preservation work, as well as theater and arts programming, we are working to honor the legacy of Denver’s oldest cultural venue, and to create a hub for arts programming and education.

HET’s Board of Directors is comprised of leaders who are dedicated to the organization’s mission. Serving on the Board is an extraordinary volunteer opportunity for an individual who is passionate about supporting the local community and promoting the arts, plus the history and the legacy of community service embodied by the spirit of Mary Elitch.

In addition to the standard roles and responsibilities of a board member, our board members are active advocates and ambassadors for the organization and are fully engaged in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for HET to advance its mission.

Board members will attend a minimum of 75% of board and committee meetings per year (i.e. must attend at least nine of the 12 regular board meetings.) Members are expected to read board materials in advance of board meetings and to come prepared to engage in discussions and decision-making.

Board members will serve on one or more committees of the board and will actively participate in committee work. Again, 75% attendance at committee meetings is the minimum expectation. (Not all committees meet monthly.)

In addition to board and committee time, board members are expected to spend several hours per month fundraising and making connections for the organization. A minimum commitment of 8 hours per month (approximately two hours per week) is expected. (This is not a board where one will attend a monthly meeting and then disengage until the next meeting — we require active participation and commitment.)

All board members will play a role in securing the financial resources necessary for HET to achieve its mission. Additionally, every board member will invest in HET’s work by making an annual financial contribution. Foundations and funding sources ask if 100% of the board supports the organization through financial contributions and we feel that is an important commitment.
