Job Description:
Empathy Theatre Project is seeking an innovative and experienced Choreographer for our upcoming production of “We’re Still Here.” The role involves designing and implementing choreography for traditional musical theatre numbers as well as creating a unique physical representation of the River, embodied by the River Spirit characters in the show.
Key Responsibilities:
- Movement Design: Create choreography for traditional musical theatre numbers, ensuring alignment with the overall vision of the production.
- River Spirit Choreography: Work with the director and creative team to choreograph imaginative movement for the River Spirit characters, effectively embodying the essence of the River in the performance.
- Rehearsal Guidance: Lead choreographic sessions during rehearsals as needed. While not required to be present at every rehearsal, the choreographer should generally be available during scheduled rehearsal times: weekday evenings (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) and Saturday afternoons.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the director, musical director, and other key production team members to ensure seamless integration of movement with the overall production.
- Feedback and Revisions: Provide constructive feedback to performers and make necessary adjustments to choreography based on rehearsals and director’s input.
- Preparation: Prepare detailed choreography notes and materials to assist performers and other staff in understanding and executing the movements.
- Final Touches: Ensure all choreography is polished and ready for performance, including overseeing final rehearsals leading up to the opening.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a choreographer, particularly in musical theatre or related performing arts.
- Strong portfolio or resume demonstrating previous work and accomplishments.
- Ability to create original and engaging choreography that fits within the artistic vision of the production.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Flexibility to attend rehearsals and adapt to the evolving needs of the production.
- Strong organizational skills to manage and document choreography effectively.
Compensation:
The choreographer position offers a total compensation of $850 for the duration of the rehearsal and performance period.
