Position Purpose:

The Bookkeeper/Payroll Clerk will report to the Artistic Director. The role is responsible for recording and maintaining the company’s financial transactions and keeping the company financially organized, as well as preparing and processing payroll for employees within the company. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Bookkeeping
    • Recording financial data into general ledgers, such as purchases, expenses, sales revenue, invoices, and payments
    • Reviewing financial data and financial reporting
    • Tracking purchases
    • Handling bank deposits
    • Processing accounts payable and accounts receivable
    • Fact-checking accounting data
    • Reconciling company accounts
  • Payroll
    • Collecting and verifying timesheet data
    • Processing payroll and tracking payroll data
    • Preparing and issuing tax forms, such as W-2s and 1099s, and completing forms for employment benefits
    • Reconciling reports: Ensuring payroll reports are accurate and addressing any discrepancies
    • Providing support: Helping employees with payroll issues
  • General administrative duties, including:
    • Attend staff meetings and events as required
    • Engage in Curious Theatre’s Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Access, and Belonging (EDIA+B) initiatives, focusing on antiracist practice, accessibility, and other areas to promote a more just and equitable organization.

To be considered, you’ll need:

  • An insatiable “yes, and” attitude focused on moving the organization forward
  • An associate or bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience of 1-2 years’ work in accounting or similar field. Certification in bookkeeping and payroll administration a plus
  • A letter of interest
  • A current resume
  • Letter of recommendation (Optional)

Class: Part-time; 20-30 hours per week

Salary: $20.00 – $22.00 an hour
