Position Summary
50% Stagehand / 50% Scenic carpenter
Reporting to the Technical Director, this part-time position is responsible for the construction, load-in, maintenance, and strike of scenic elements required for theatrical productions.
This position will also be asked to be a part of the run crew for theatrical productions, including pre-show duties, scenery shifts during performances, and resetting at the end of the night.
Responsibilities – Stagehand
• Preparation of stage, props, and scenery for performances
• Assist with scenery shifts and props during performances
• End-of-night resetting for the next day’s performance
Responsibilities – Scenic Carpenter
• Woodworking
• Metalworking
• Fabrication and assembly of scenic elements
• Installation, repair and strike of scenery
• Other reasonable duties as assigned
Skills and Competencies
• 1-3 years experience with theatrical carpentry and construction
• Ability to read hand-drafted and CAD/ VWX illustrated technical drawings
• Willingness to adhere to deadlines
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to follow scene shop safety protocols per industry safety standards
• Comfortable working at heights, including loading weight from a fly loft
• Must be comfortable working in bucket and scissor lifts
• Ability to climb and work from ladders
• Ability to lift 20+ pounds regularly and 50+ pounds occasionally
Compensation
This is a part-time, nonexempt position earning $20.00 per hour for 20-30 hours per week for the duration of the engagement, and is eligible for paid sick time per Colorado Law.
