TUT UNCOMMON – A SHORT PLAY FESTIVAL IN HONOR OF THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF KING TUT’S TOMB – THEATER COMPANY OF LAFAYETTE
What do avid film fans, intrepid archeologists, and an ancient Pharoah have in common? This year’s Tut Uncommon Play Festival, is hosted by the Theatre Company of Lafayette (TCL)! The idea for Tut Uncommon was born out of a desire to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the discovery of King Tutankhamun’s tomb. TCL commissioned seven playwrights to each write a short play loosely inspired by the historic event that will be woven together to create an entertaining night of theatre, filled with mummies, ancient curses, lost loves, and PBS pledge drives gone awry.
On November 4th, 1922, British archeologist Howard Carter discovered King Tut’s tomb. A golden coffin within two other coffins held his mummified body, untouched for three thousand years. Though historians are still unsure of his cause of death, what is certain is that TCL’s Tut Uncommon promises to be a night of delight and wonder. Opening night is on the exact 100-year anniversary, November 4th, 2022. Don’t miss it!
TCL is an award-winning theater with a strong history of producing dynamic and thrilling new work. Performances will take place at the Mary Miller Theater, 300 East Simpson Street, Lafayette, CO 80026 from November 4 to 19 (Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 PM; Sunday matinees at 2 PM). There will be one Thursday performance on November 17, at 7:30 (pay what you can night).
With gifted playwrights as CP Stancich, Paul Wells, Brad Rutledge, Emily Golden, David Golden, and Nora Douglass, and directed by theater vanguards, Madge Montgomery, Vonalda Utterback, Jeremy Denning, Don Thumim, and Paul Wells, the evening is guaranteed to be an unforgettable one.
