Man Up is an original musical, created by Empathy Theatre Project. In three acts, it tells the story of a boy and his sister, Duncan and Jill, who come of age together on a ranch in the West. They begin as very similar children—both are expressive, fun, and quirky. Jill loves dancing; Duncan nurses an obsession with frogs. But their path through life splits when Duncan begins struggling to reconcile his identity with society’s expectations of what it means to be a man. The closer he comes to reaching an ideal of masculinity, the further he strays from his closest relationships—and from himself. Can he find his way back?
