Viewpoints & Suzuki Workshop with SITI Company

Hosted by the University of Denver Department of Theatre
Monday, August 27th – Friday, August 31st, 2012
10am-3pm daily / $300
Take advantage of this rare opportunity to spend a week studying Viewpoints and Suzuki with two members of the
internationally prestigious SITI Company. Classes will take place from 10am-12pm and 1-3pm daily at the
University of Denver in the Newman Center for the Performing Arts.
SUZUKI METHOD
A rigorous physical discipline drawn from such diverse influences as ballet, martial arts, and traditional Japanese
and Greek theater, the training seeks to heighten the actor’s emotional and physical power and commitment on
stage. Attention is on the lower body and a vocabulary of footwork, sharpening the actor’s breath control, vocal
strength, focus and concentration.
VIEWPOINTS
First articulated by Mary Overlie, the Viewpoints breaks down the two dominant issues performers deal with, time
and space, into six categories known as the Six Viewpoints. SITI Company has expanded and adapted these
Viewpoints, allowing a group of actors to function together spontaneously and to generate bold, theatrical work
quickly. It develops flexibility, articulation, and strength in movement for both the individual and ensemble.
Both trainings are physically challenging and rigorous.
Applicants should come in good health and be able to attend every day.
Class size is limited.
