Chris Fonsecais the first, and only, person with a visible disability to entertain on the Late Night Show with David Letterman, and is also a native of Colorado. Chris allows his Cerebral Palsy to be the foundation of many of his stories. He notes that this helps to break down many preconceived barriers about CP. For fifteen years now, he has had collegiate, corporate and association audiences rolling with him in the aisles.

Chris was already on his way up as he was asked to become part of the award winning PBS production, Look Who's Laughing, the first comedy special featuring those with disabilities. He has also been featured as an entertainer on The American Comedy Awards, a presenter at The Presidents Committee for the Employment of People with Disabilities Conference, and featured comedian at The Montreal Comedy Festival. Each year he is the star performer of the San Antonio Latino Laugh Festival; where he plays to sold-out crowds of 20,000. He is currently a headliner at the newly formed Los Angeles Latino Comedy Festival.

For over a decade, Chris has become a veteran performer tuning his physical disability into a positive visual image. He has won the praise of Presidents Clinton and Carter and was invited to entertain on the ABC Special, An Evening of Hope-Christopher Reeve. Chris has additionally appeared on Evening at the Improv, Comedy on the Road, Entertainment Tonight, and has been featured in USA Today, The Los Angeles Times, and Daily Variety. He also had a co-starring guest role on a Media Access Award winning episode of Baywatch. Although touring over 200 nights a year, he still finds time to share with his two daughters.

Now in its 23rd season, PHAMALY is an award winning Colorado based Theatre Company comprised entirely of performers with a wide variety of physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges.  PHAMALY’s mission is to provide professional theatre opportunities and artistic development for performers with disabilities, and to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities in the performing arts community.

PHAMALY’s annual season includes a professionally-produced play staged in January at the Aurora Fox and February at the Arvada Center, a professional-scale musical at the Denver Performing Arts Complex in July, and an award-winning sketch comedy, Vox PHAMALIA, held at the Avenue Theater. New this year is the sketch comedy, disLabled, recently held at the Dairy Center in Boulder. PHAMALY also produces a regionally touring play, and outreach performances at local businesses, senior centers, community arts festivals, colleges and schools.

Robert Wells, choreographed by Kelly Kates with musical direction by Donna Kolpan Debreceni.

After a hiatus of a year from performing, Bernie Cardell is happy to be back on stage at Town Hall. “Town Hall has a

track record for quality shows, so one thing that has changed is the “bar” of quality has been raised. (And I can

confidently say that The Producers will not disappoint.)” As to how prepared he and the cast are for the show, Bernie

said, “Max can be a very difficult role to play and The Producers is a show that is like a speeding train: Once it starts,

it just doesn’t stop! This is a very funny group of people to hang out with. It’s one of the most talented casts I have

ever been a part of. In particular, audiences should keep an eye on the entire ensemble. I have never in all of my

experience seen a busier group of people than in this show. They are everywhere! And they are fabulous!”

Long before that girl from Kansas arrives in Munchkinland, two girls meet in the land of Oz. One — born with emerald green skin — is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. How these two grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good makes for "the most complete and completely satisfying new musical in a long time" (USA Today).

Back by “Popular” demand, Entertainment Weekly calls Wicked “the best musical of the decade,” and when it last played Denver in 2009, it broke box office records and sold out in record time. Winner of 35 major awards, including a Grammy and three Tony Awards, Wicked is Broadway’s biggest blockbuster, a cultural phenomenon and was just named “the defining musical of the decade" by The New York Times.

Dinner Theatre
Cinderella/Boulder's Dinner Theatre (May 19-September 1)

RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN'S CINDERELLA

May 19 through September 1, 2012

BUY TICKETS

The timeless enchantment of a magical fairy tale is reborn with the Rodgers & Hammerstein hallmarks of originality, charm and elegance.

Originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium. Its recreation in 1965 starring Lesley Ann Warren was no less successful in transporting a new generation to the miraculous kingdom of dreams-come-true, and so was a second remake in 1997, which starred Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as her Fairy Godmother.

As adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity, the hearts of children and adults alike still soar when the slipper fits.

Comedy/Drama
A Behanding in Spokane/Lake Dillon Theatre (May 10-June 3)

A Behanding in Spokane by Martin McDonagh

May 10-June 3

After several decades of searching, Carmichael arrives in town, a suspected location of his missing left hand. He can’t put a finger on it, but his plan is quickly getting out of hand. With a handful of unwelcome guests in his hotel room including a rather peculiar bellhop and a pair of quarrelsome young lovers, Carmichael resorts to some underhanded methods to find his missing appendage and keep the others quiet.

From the mind of Martin McDonagh, the author of the acclaimed THE PILLOWMAN, comes an edgy dark comedy that is sure to indecently impress, rudely repulse, and offhandedly offend.

Classified by critics as a modern tragedy, "A View from the Bridge," focuses on the strengths and imperfections of the domestic world of middle-class individuals. Taking place in an Italian-American neighborhood near the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City in the 1950s, this play is a love story gone wrong.

Eddie Carbone, an Italian-American longshoreman, lives in Red Hook, Brooklyn, with his wife, Beatrice and his niece, Catherine. He is a pillar in the community who is devoted to and protective of his family. After his wife's cousins, Marco and Rodolpho, arrive in America illegally to escape the poverty of Sicily, Eddie's troubles begin.

As Rodolpho and Catherine fall in love, Eddie's adoration for his niece is no longer touching as it turns into obsession. Eddie becomes increasingly terrifying as his love and loyalty for his niece is challenged by his wife and the cousins. Eddie works adamantly to retain his community authority and defend his reputation.

The cast includes Carol Bloom as Beatrice, Rebecca Morphis as Catherine, Stephen Siebert as Rodolpho, and Rick Yaconis as Eddie.

This production will be performed for the first time in the round at The Edge as the theatre is transformed into Red Hook, Brooklyn, 1955. Our second weekend of “A View From the Bridge” kicks off our celebration of Italian American Immigrants. Beginning May 10, before every performance, The Edge will be selecting 2 families to honor. Please bring a photo and a brief story about your family’s history and what brought them to America. We will share those 2 stories with our audience before every performance during the run. By Sarah Ruhl

Directed by Deb Flomberg

Equinox Theatre Company is proud to present the second show in their 2012 season with the Denver premier of Sarah Ruhl's “In the Next Room, or the Vibrator Play” May 25 through June 16. Performance dates are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 PM. With a pay-what-you-can Industry night on June 5th. Tickets are $15 and are available online at www.EquinoxTheatreDenver.com. Performances will be at The Bug Theatre – 3654 Navajo Street in Denver. Reservations are accepted at (720) 984-0781. This show is recommended for mature audiences.

In a seemingly perfect, well-to-do Victorian home, proper gentleman and scientist Dr. Givings has innocently invented an extraordinary new device for treating “hysteria” in women (and occasionally men): the vibrator. Adjacent to the doctor’s laboratory, his young and energetic wife tries to tend to their newborn daughter—and wonders exactly what is going on in the next room. When a new “hysterical” patient and her husband bring a wet nurse and their own complicated relationship into the doctor’s home, Dr. and Mrs. Givings must examine the nature of their own marriage, and what it truly means to love someone.

“In the Next Room is a true novelty: a sex comedy designed not for sniggering teenage boys — or grown men who wish they were still sniggering teenage boys — but for adults with open hearts and minds.” –The New York Times

A “sensitive exploration of the physical and emotional repression suffered by the women of the era, which has yet to disappear entirely….The play beautifully balances its humor and pathos.” –Hollywood Reporter

The talented cast includes Charles Wingerter as Dr. Givings; Kaity Talmage-Bowers as Mrs. Givings; Arthur Pierce as Mr. Daldry; Aimee Nelson as Mrs. Daldry; Linda Swanson Brown as Annie; Adam Perkes as Leo; and Lisa Young as Elizabeth.

In the Next Room, or the Vibrator Play was Sarah Ruhl's Broadway debut, opening on Broadway at the Lyceum Theatre in November, 2009. This hysterical play was a 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama finalist and a Best Play Tony Award nominee in 2010.

Red/Curious Theatre Company (May 5-June 16)

Red

By John Logan

May 5 - June 16, 2012

Previews: May 3 and 4, 2012

Opening Night: May 5, 2012

Winner of six Tony Awards, including Best Play, RED is set in the late 1950s as renowned painter Mark Rothko struggles to complete his commissioned Seagram Murals for the Four Seasons in New York City. A scintillating discourse flies between Rothko and his newly hired assistant as they stretch, pull and paint canvas while arguing the nuances of creativity and inspiration, the legacy of artists, and the intersection of art and commerce. RED is an intense portrait of a troubled and brilliant mind, of a master painter keenly aware of the precarious balance of his artistic crown, seen through the eyes of the artist into the painting. It invites you to look into the art and the sacrifice, feel the exhilaration of the act, experience a captivating expression of ideas, and dares you to leave unmoved.

Sweet Storm/Miners Alley(June 1-July 8)

June 1-July 8

"Sweet Storm" by Scott Hudson

Directed by Robert Kramer

In 1960’s Florida Bo Harrison sweeps his lovely bride, Ruthie, up into the tree house he's built as a surprise for their wedding night, unaware that the fury of an infamous storm is rolling in from the gulf. Ruthie, recently paralyzed from the waist down, tentatively finds her way in their "honeymoon suite in the sky"—and in the mystery, wonder and promise of her role as a newlywed. The human heart's wild longing for union in conflict with its abiding need for self-preservation fuels the sweet storm between lover and beloved in this intimate love story that challenges our perceptions of marriage, faith, and love.

The Joy Luck Club/Vintage (April 27-May 20)

Vintage Theatre presents
“The Joy Luck Club”
Adapted By Susan Kim
Based on the novel “The Joy Luck Club” by Amy Tan
Directed by Craig A. Bond

Vintage Theatre opens new space with “The Joy Luck Club” on April 27

Vintage Theatre presents “The Joy Luck Club.” April 27-May 20*(*note date/location change)at their new location 1468 Dayton St., Aurora 80010.Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 ($20 advance) on Fridays and Saturdays; $21 ($18 advance) on Sundays. Tickets are available by calling 303-856-7830 or online at www.vintagetheatre.com.

“The Joy Luck Club”tells the stories of four Chinese-immigrant women and their American-born daughters. Each of the four Chinese women has her own view of the world based on her experiences in China and wants to share that vision with her daughter. The daughters try to understand and appreciate their mothers' pasts, adapt to the American way of life, and win their mothers' acceptance.

Based on the book by the same name, the title comes from the club formed in China by one of the mothers, Suyuan Woo, in order to lift her friends' spirits and distract them from their problems during the Japanese invasion. At club meetings, they play the Chinese game of mahjong for money while feasting on a variety of foods. Suyuan continued the club when she came to the United States—hoping to bring luck to her family and friends and finding joy in that hope.

The outstanding cast includes The Mothers: Donna Hansen (Suyuan Woo), Kim Yan (An-Mei Hsu), Tria Xiong* (Lindo Jong) and Janell Kim (Ying-Ying St. Clair); The Daughters: Samantha Yon (Jing-Mei Woo), Jennifer So (Rose Hsu Jordan), Michelle Yung Hurtubise (Waverly Jong) and Ulcca Joshi Hansen (Lena St. Clair).

The ensemble includes Maria Cheng, Charlie Chiv*,Paolo Dizon, Catherine Huh, Andrew Hunter, John Katona, Dat Le aka: Lee, Dorothy Lee,Heather Papazian,Melinda Piche, Arlene Rapal,Ben Sisaengrat, Lianna Sisaengrat, Lilly Triavita and Peter Trinh. * appears courtesy of Actors' Equity

Amy Tan wrote “The Joy Luck Club” to try to understand her own relationship with her mother. Tan's Chinese parents wanted Americanized children but expected them to think like Chinese. Tan found this particularly difficult as an adolescent. While the generational differences were like those experienced by other mothers and daughters, the cultural distinctions added another dimension. Thus, Tan wrote not only to sort out her cultural heritage but to learn how she and her mother could get along better.

The Merry Wives of Windsor/Upstart Crow (May 4-19)

The Merry Wives of Windsor

by William Shakespeare

Directed by Joan Kuder Bell

The Upstart Crow's production opens Friday, May 4, at The Dairy Center for the Arts for a three-weekend run.

“Queen Elizabeth was so well pleased with that admirable character of Falstaff in the two parts of Henry IV that she commanded [Shakespeare] to continue it for one more play and show him in love.”

That’s Nicholas Rowe in his 1709 biography of Shakespeare. He goes on to point out that the play was performed before the Queen about three weeks after she made the request.

Three weeks does not seem like enough time to write and rehearse a good play, but we really don’t know how long it usually took Shakespeare to turn out a play. Between 1590 and 1613 he wrote about forty plays, fewer than two a year, but he was an actor in his company and probably worked as what we would call a producer and a director as well. (His Spanish contemporary, Lope de Vega, over a sixty-year career, cranked out about 1800 plays; that’s about a week and a half for each.)

Scholars have speculated that Shakespeare may have had a romantic comedy already in the works, and all he had to do, then, was to change the name of his central character to Falstaff, do enough rewriting to make him sufficiently Falstaffian, and give to some of the other characters the names of characters in the Henry IV plays. That would explain a lot about this play.

Mistress Quickly is the keeper of a tavern and a bawdy house in Henry IV. In Merry Wives she is a housekeeper and not the same character at all. And Falstaff is not quite Falstaffian. He is not nearly as intelligent and lacks some of comic and cosmic grandeur of his namesake. But—and here’s the thing—he is funnier.

In Shakespeare’s greatest comedies there is always a kind of restraint in the extent to which he pushes the joke. The characters, however funny, always remain in the domain of the human. Occasionally, in a subplot, he will go all out, as he does in the Pyramus and Thisbe scene in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. In Merry Wives he goes all out. Under the pressure of time he does what he can do all too easily, and usually refrains from doing.

So The Merry Wives of Windsor is not a grand image of the human condition as Hamlet is, or even as Twelfth Night is, but it may be Shakespeare’s funniest play. What more could you want? Next year we’ll be doing Henry V. You’ll see some of the same characters: Mrs Quickly, Pistol, Bardolph, Robin. You will complain that they are not as funny there as they are in this play. You won’t see Falstaff: he dies off-stage in the first act. It’s probably stooping to do Merry Wives that killed him.

Curtain time is 7:30 on May 4,5,10,11,12,17,18,19; 2 pm on May 13. Regular admission: $20; seniors and students: $17. Reservations and more info: 303-442-1415; info@theupstartcrow.org ; .www.theupstartcrow.org.

One of the masterpieces of comic theatre, given fresh timeliness and appeal

in the brilliant Richard Wilbur translation. Outraged and disheartened by the

vain flattery and calculated duplicity of his fellow men,

the Pitkin County misanthrope, Alceste, declares that henceforth

he will speak only the truth—no matter what offence this might give.

Offences mount up with hilarious consequences. “Surely the best

A delightful and touching anthology compilation of four vignette comedies, exploring the complexities of love and marriage in the modern world and are at the same time, both funny and poignant, whilst also quirkily odd. Three Sisters/Spark Theater (April 20-May 20)

Spark Theater is proud to present Three Sisters by Anton Chekov as our final production of Season One, opening on April 20th and running through May 20th. Spark's original adaptation of Chekov's masterpiece reduces the entire play to its essential components, featuring only 5 women who perform the entire show: the three sisters, their sister-in-law, and their maid. By reworking the story for a modern audience, Spark joins some of the biggest theaters in the country that have put their own spin on this late play by Anoton Chekov, including major productions in New York (with Peter Sarsgaard and Maggie Gyllenhal), LA (with Mad Men's John Hamm) and Steppenwolf's upcoming production in Chicago. The script has been a source of inspiration for many of America's biggest playwrights, including David Mamet, Tracy Letts, and Sara Ruhl,

Three Sisters takes place over 5 years in the living room of the three Prozoroff sisters, Olga, Masha, and Irina. They live on in the provincial town their Army officer father brought them to eleven years ago. Now that their father has died, the girls plan a return to their former lives in high society Moscow. But the outside world is changing, and the genteel Victorian era they grew up in is being replaced by a cold modernity, for which they are ill suited. As their brother Andrei marries a local "common" girl, and each of the girls lives gets pulled further into the interia of this small-minded town, these three sisters realize that all they have is each other, and their dreams of Moscow are slipping further away with each passing day. Comic and heartfelt, this family dramedy tells the story of what happens as we grow up, grow apart, and grow old.

Coming on the heels of it's hit, sold-out original showCasual Encounters/Missed Connections, Three Sisters is a return to the re-imagined classics that are the signature of Spark's programming. Three Sisters stars Theresa Reid, Lauren Bahlman, Cassidi Leigh Parker, Timmi Ann Lasley and Cathy Washburn and is directed by Michael Emmitt. Tickets are $10-$20 and are currently available online at http://sparktheater.org/tickets

What do you get when you mix a double shot of love triangle, an ambitious young woman disguised as her twin brother, a pair of buffoons, one amorous fool, and one wise fool? A marvelous cocktail of romance and pathos, silliness and laughter! Shipwrecked on the shores of Illyria, Viola, calling herself “Cesario,” pursues employment in the court of Duke Orsino, who is in love with the Lady Olivia. A classic case of mistaken identity washes up on the shores of Illyria — known today as Albania — spawning comic antics and utter abandon. Having survived a shipwreck, Viola dresses as a boy to become the page of Duke Orsino. Though smitten by her new master, she must obey when he sends her to woo the Countess Olivia on his behalf. Meanwhile, tricked into believing she shares his love, Olivia’s stuffy steward Malvolio hysterically humiliates himself to please her. Staged Readings
Melting Pot Mixer & Nothing But Skin Staged Reading/Aurora Fox (May 21)

The Aurora Fox presents a Melting Pot Mixer followed

by a Staged Reading of Josh Hartwell’s Nothing But Skin

Aurora, CO – Come for the party. Stay for the show! The Aurora Fox will be hosting a talent mixer on May 21st from 5pm-9pm at The Fox (9900 East Colfax Avenue, Aurora CO 80010). Admission to the mixer is free. Tickets for the staged reading are free for Season Ticket Holders and mixer attendees and $5 for the general public. No reservations necessary. 303-739-1970 or www.AuroraFox.org

A group of directors will be assembled to meet and mingle with actors of all ethnicities prior to the staged reading of Nothing But Skin by local playwright Josh Hartwell. More specifically, at 5pm there will be a panel discussion about diversity in theatre and the development of a more color blind audience. At 6pm, actors will have an opportunity to mix and mingle and exchange contact information so directors/producers can get a better idea of the scope of ethnic talent in the Denver/Metro area. Actors should have at least 10 copies of their headshot and resume with them to hand out. At 7pm we will present a staged reading of Nothing But Skin which chronicles an affluent African American family's tumultuous summer vacation.

About the reading: Rather than relaxing, patriarch, Robert, busies himself with cleanup and repair projects at his family’s summer retreat – a distraction from his growing sense of inner turmoil. His passive-aggressive wife, Nora, may know more about her husband and two grown children than she chooses to acknowledge. Their son still dolefully clings to his high school athletic success. Daughter, Kendra, a gifted author, spends most of her life emotionally severed from her dysfunctional family. The presence of Nora's terminally ill best friend, Stella, and Kendra's boyfriend, Travis, guarantees that the summer will be anything but tranquil.

Mixer guests are encouraged to stay for the Staged Reading.

Tickets for the public performances at 1 p.m. Sundays, March 18 - May 13 (no performance April 8) are $10 general admission or $9 for children, students or seniors at MACC at the Robert E. Her magic waned when her enchanted mirror was shattered and shards rained down to earth. Each piece was infused with the vanity of the Snow Queen and had the power to make people see only the cold, darkness of the world. When Gerda’s eccentric friend, Cei, gets a shard from the mirror lodged in his eye, the Snow Queen targets Cei to rebuild her mirror so she can destroy the other seasons and freeze the hearts of all living things to rule over a world of snow and ice. Against the odds, Gerda is determined to save him and begins a journey to restore the seasons and defeat the Snow Queen. Along the way she meets a bevy of magical, fantastic and heart-warming characters. The multiple award-winning directing tandem of Steve Wilson (also MACC executive artistic director) and Billie McBride has assembled an all-star cast which includes adult actors Misha Johnson (Gerta), Michael Bouchard (Cei/ Prince Frederick), Miriam Tobin (Snow Queen), Brian Landis Folkins (Mr. Overskou/ JJ/ Bae, a magic reindeer), Edith Weiss (Mrs. Fyn/ Mrs. Dear/ Robber Mother), Mare Trevathan (Grandma/ Bindweed, a flower/ Lily/ Robber Girl) and Missy Moore (Elisa/ Snowdrop, a flower/ Princess Fredrica). “This is an unbelievably talented group of actors. It will be worth the price of admission to watch the stupendous versatility of these acting veterans strut their stuff!.” says co-director Billie McBride. “This will be the first opportunity for our audiences to see the $2.5 million renovation of our theatre. Thanks to the unsurpassed generosity of Elaine [Wolf] MACC will offer one of the most elegant theatrical venues in the region,” emphasized Steve Wilson. “We are ecstatic that the first theatrical production will be this epic Hans Christian Andersen tale from our children’s theatre program which is focused on engaging and enlightening our audiences of the future.” With a magnificently elegant façade and an equally resplendent interior, not to mention state of the art audio visual equipment, expanded seating in a new mezzanine level and easy access for disabled patrons, the Elaine Wolf Theatre will be one of the most prominent performance venues in the Denver metro area. Especially unique to the theatre is the handicap-accessible center row which features the best seating in the house and can be reached through an entrance specifically designed for easiest access. An elevator to the brand new mezzanine level will also allow for additional prime accessible seating on the second floor. For performances spanning more than 15 years, the DCT has won kudos galore, including the 2009 Henry Award for Outstanding Children’s Theatre, the Colorado equivalent of a Tony Award. The Othello Project, Phase II

A multimedia performance event

Visionbox, a new professional actors’ studio and multimedia production company in Denver, will premiereThe Othello Project, Phase II, an original low-friction adaptation of Othello, opening May 31st. The production is conceived, adapted and directed by Jennifer McCray Rincon, Executive Artistic Director of Visionbox, and combines Shakespeare’s text and characters with contemporary scenes of domestic violence. Following every performance there will be a talk back with members of the Crime Victims Advisory Council, a unit of the Victim Services Network, part of the Denver District Attorneys Office, other domestic violence advocacy groups, and the cast and the creators of the project. The Othello Project will run Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from May 31st - June 9th at L2 Arts & Culture Center, 1477 Columbine St., Denver 80206. There will be an art show by local artists in the L2 lobby prior to the performance each night, and their works will mirror the themes in The Othello Project. The performance Saturday, June 2nd will be a benefit show for The Toni Connection, a local organization dedicated educating youth about the warning signs of domestic violence.

The Denver Victim Services Network (VSN) was created in 1997 to bring victim service providers in Denver together to create the best possible network of services for all victims of crime. The primary objective of the Crime Victim Advisory Council (CVAC), a sub-committee to VSN, is to support a network of services so that every victim of crime in Denver can find services that are right for them. In order to do this, ongoing communications with victims of crime is essential to make sure that victims’ voices are heard on a variety of topics and issues. The CVAC is comprised of persons who identify themselves as survivors of crime or as a person touched by crime.

The mission of Visionbox is to develop the work of visionary artists through professional training and public performance. Ms. Rincon founded Visionbox in 2011 to meet a need for more professional training for actors and artists in Denver. Ms. Rincon is a graduate of the Yale School of Drama, a Fullbright Fellow, and was the Head of Acting at the National Theatre Conservatory for 18 years. Visionbox is developing a new performance modality called low-friction, that emphasizes process over product, and the essential relationship between the actor, text and audience, with minimalistic multimedia production elements. Visionbox is currently in residence at L2 Arts & Culture Center on East Colfax. L2 Arts and Culture Center has a newly renovated 500 seat theater, and is a presenter for local arts events including Swallow Hill and The Denver Film Society.

THIRD TUESDAYS

On Tuesday, September 15th, come see the third installment of "Buntport Versus" (a one-of-a-kind program that pits members of Buntport against fellow community members).

Come to find out and to even have a say in the outcome.

On the 15th, Buntport takes on four designers from The Fabric Lab in a Project Runway-style challenge, featuring designs by Tran Wills, Baily Rose, Incroyables by Melissa May, and Studio Yoshida. Who will be fashion forward in Denver, and who will be out?

Dave Shirley's Rattlebrain/Avenue Theater (March 23-May 19)

Describing Rattlebrain has proven to be a difficult task. How does one describe a show that uses elements of comedy, music, video, poorly performed magic, shadow puppetry, juggling without hands and fake ventriloquism?

You see our point.

Ever since Dave was about 16 years old juggling on the streets of Denver and Boulder Colorado he had a vision for a show that would incorporate all of his useless skills. Back then, there weren’t as many useless skills to draw upon but years later Dave has enough useless skills to combine them into one hilarious one man show that is guaranteed to be like nothing you have ever seen.

You'll walk away with an experience that will leave you laughing while wondering, "What the hell was that?" all at the same time. And after your friends ask you what the show was about; if you come up with a great answer, we would love to hear it.

WHAT: Dave Shirley’s Rattlebrain
WHEN: March 23rd to May 19th, 2012. Performances are as follows:
Friday and Saturday nights: shows at 7:30 pm
WHERE: The Avenue Theater, 417 E 17th Ave in Denver, 303.321.5925.

CAST: Dave Shirleybegan his illustrious performing career on the streets of Denver and Boulder Colorado juggling fire and swallowing razor blades for one dollar at a time. It was there that he began to learn skills that had very little purpose in life. Talents such as eating fire, doing magic tricks and balancing objects brought him lots of joy but practically no recognition. After honing his acting skills in traditional theater and improvisation, he created Rattlebrain Theater Company with his wife Jane in the lower level of the D&F Clock Tower. It was there that he acted as the head writer and Artistic Director for their critically acclaimed original comedies. Dave was fortunate to tour the nation in 2 original comedies Triple Espresso and The Male Intellect: An Oxymoron. He has now focused his energy on a brand new one man show that he sometimes describes as “all things Dave finds funny” utilizing his lifetime of useless skills and putting them into a single show with the sole purpose of making you laugh.

COST: Individual tickets are $20.00 at The Avenue Theater box office.

CONTACT: For more information please contact Dave Shirley at (303) 919-9698 or rattlebrained@gmail.com. For more information about tickets and show times, please contact The Avenue Theater at 303-321-5925 or visit www.AvenueTheater.com

The Heirs of Hogwarts/Bovine Metropolis (ongoing)

The Heirs of Hogwarts: An Improvised Adventure

Bovine Metropolis Theater

1527 Champa Street, Denver Colorado

Improv is like magic, and with the “Heirs of Hogwarts: An Improvised Adventure” you will be magically transported to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, where our beloved heroes’ children must overcome their own challenges.

Albus Potter, Rose-Granger Weasley, Scorpius Malfoy and more will face growing pains, learn the wonders of magic, and fly into the unknown. He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named has been destroyed so surely there is no evil left to threaten the Heirs of Hogwarts... Or is there?

“I so loved the books and movies, so its really great to get to keep the story going,” said Hufflepuff, Miko Khan, “I loved HP, so much that I would literally fantasize about being at Hogwarts-- so this is like the closest thing to being there.”

All the things you love about the Harry Potter universe will be displayed on stage: charms, Hogwarts houses, transfiguration, and magical creatures. Returning to Hogwarts has never been this funny. “Heirs of Hogwarts: An Improvised Adventure” is a loving fan-fiction parody of an entire year at Hogwarts.

And just like a Bag of Bertie Bott’s every flavored beans, “Anything can happen,” says Gryffindor and Dramaturg, Kent Welborn. “In Improv anything can happen, and then in the magical world of Harry Potter anything can happen double.”

Experience a loving homage to the world of Harry Potter. With completely improvised story lines, this is a heartfelt send-up to the universe created by J.K. Rowling. Imagine a love letter in the form of spoof, and that’s what witches, wizards and muggles will be enjoying every Saturday Starting June 2nd,  at Bovine Metropolis Theater.

Expect, “Magic,” says Welborn.

Come by portkey, broom, or apparition to Bovine Metropolis Theater, to revel in all things magical. Your presence is requested, by the professors of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, first years are reminded not to do magic outside of school grounds. Mischief Managed!

“Heirs of Hogwarts: An Improvised Adventure” opens on Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. on June 2 Tickets are $16. Bovine Metropolis Theater is located at 1527 Champa Street in the heart of the Denver Theatre District. The Bovine is an improv organization that teaches and performs theatrical improvisation, the art of accepting the unknown gracefully.
