| | Why a magazine about the “culture of acting?” And why this moment in time? If you're reading this, then you know that there are some wonderful magazines out there that focus on the world of entertainment. But most of these magazines seem to truck in the whole of the theatrical world (writing, administration, directing, acting), posting ads for auditions, or speaking primarily to an academic audience. Similarly, some publications focus solely on the “two coasts” or take up most of their space dealing with gossip and box office. We respect all of these ambitions, but thought it was time for a magazine that dealt solely with the art and craft of acting. The Culture of Acting.
We looked around and realized that there are talented actors all over the nation. We want to create a place where these men and women can go to discuss the craft in a competition-free atmosphere. A place to dig into the terms, theories, ideas, practices, pitfalls, tips, methods, new works, toils, and successes of a life in acting.
Look, we’re realistic. We know that the acting business has, at it’s root, COMPETITION. We know that there are many more actors than there seem to be jobs, especially paying jobs. With this as a given, we feel no need to dwell on this fact or to fan the flames of the “beat your colleague” mentality that sometimes makes us all feel as if we have to fake it, look over our shoulders, intimidate, or feel intimidated. Instead, we hope to create a SAFE PLACE where actors can go to engage in discussion and soak up additional education. A place to share, not horde, this art.
ACTING NOW will begin as a free, on-line quarterly with plans to expand. However, we can't expand without you. We need your feedback, we need your contributions, and we need you to spread the word. We need you to reach out to other readers who, like yourself, want in-depth articles on process, not superficial sound bites. Who want to hear from all voices of the acting community, not just the privileged few. Who want laser-like focus on the craft and culture of acting, with no distractions.
We thank you for reading – and participating in – ACTING NOW. This magazine is for you. And for all of us who share this passion.

| | The Off Broadway Online website, the official website of Off Broadway, is presented by the Alliance of Resident Theatres/New York (A.R.T./New York).
Off Broadway is the country's most artistically influential and culturally diverse theatre community and on any given day you can find literally dozens of productions playing throughout the City. There are performances happening in every neighborhood in every style for every taste and budget. Even we admit all this variety can be a little overwhelming. As a result, we have designed Off Broadway Online so that, in a matter of moments, you can find exactly what you want.
At Off Broadway Online, we assume that you know what you want, so rather than organizing the site so its easy for us, we've organized it so you can find the information that matters to you the most. For example, if you want to see what's playing in your neighborhood, or if a company is doing a play by your favorite author, use the "List by" to get a list of companies which meet the one criteria that is most important to you.

| | Since 1916, The Drama League has been a second home for those who love American theatre. Founded as an association of theatre professionals and patrons dedicated to encouraging the finest in professional theatre, The Drama League soon found another role -- as a service organization for theatre lovers interested in enhancing their understanding and experience of live theatre.
In this new century, the benefits enjoyed by our members include discounted tickets for the best Broadway, Off-Broadway, and regional productions across the United States; informative panels, luncheons and discussions with leading figures in the theatre; gala events saluting theatre luminaries; our Annual Awards honoring the New York season's outstanding performers and productions, and much more.
Member dues and purchases fund new initiatives for young artists through The Drama League Directors Project, encouraging and training young talents while providing much-needed exposure and essential connections to the professional theatrical community.
"The Drama League plays an increasingly significant role on the national theatre scene," says Lincoln Center Theatre Artistic Director Andre Bishop. That role, to intimately connect audiences to this most engaging of art forms, is enjoyed by over 2,000 members across the United States and in Europe. Producer Robert Whitehead remarked that "The Drama League has always played a role in making people conscious of theatre...of letting them know that theatre -- good theatre -- can help illuminate the world for us."
If you love the theatre, consider joining The Drama League -- become a vital part of the national theatre scene, support young artists, and enrich your life. There are a number of membership levels to fit any lifestyle.

| | American Theatre: Create, Produce, Promote [tm]. Sounds simple, doesn't it? But anybody associated with theatre knows that those three words can last literally a lifetime in the eyes of a producer, playwright or director.
Our goal at TheatreUSA.com is simple. We intend to provide a comprehensive online resource for the core of theatre arts and we will focus on three things
- Create in Writing: A playwright's dream. A listing of playwrights, organizations, resources, and education opportunities for both aspiring and accomplished playwrights.
- Produce on Stage: A stage manager's haven. All aspects of stage production, including light and sound resources, costuming, assocations and trade groups and more for both for-profit and non-profit theatre productions.
- Promote in Theatres: An theatre patron's paradise. Already over 1,000 listings of community, for-profit, and non-profit theatre listings are present, sorted by state.
We are just getting started and already we have over 1,100 Links in 62 different categories. Bear with us as we fine tune the site and make this the premier Theatre Site on the internet.
